Scope
Replanting of a failed median scheme with species selected for salt spray, road dust and long gaps between irrigation cycles - the three things that had killed the previous planting.
Work performed
- Removal of failed planting and 220 m³ of contaminated soil
- Soil replacement and drainage correction along 3.2 km
- Planting of 180 Washingtonia and date palms at 18 m centres
- Mass planting of 4,200 oleander, lantana and gazania
- Installation of a pressure-compensating drip network
- Traffic management and night working on live carriageway sections
Irrigation
Pressure-compensating drip line the full length of the median, sectioned into 400 m runs with isolating valves so a single break does not take the whole scheme offline. Fed from three existing connection points with filtration at each.
Maintenance
Monthly maintenance visits with traffic-safe crews: pruning, weed control, irrigation inspection and replacement planting.
