Judas Tree
Cercis siliquastrum
About this plant
A small native tree that flowers pink directly on the bare branches before the leaves appear, then carries heart-shaped blue-green foliage through the summer. Ideal where a full-size shade tree would overwhelm the space.
Planting & care
Full sun to light shade, well-drained soil, tolerates lime. Dislikes root disturbance, so plant young and leave in place. Minimal pruning - shape only after flowering.
